Per
this Reuters article, Super Typhoon Sepat is going to hit Taiwan today (
interactive map).
I don't remember what year (maybe 1990), but there was this one typhoon season when we had three separate storms cut right across Taiwan,
just like this one is supposed to do but from west to east. We had high winds, hard rain, flooding... school was naturally canceled, and I remember trying to ride my bicycle and getting pushed all over the road. If I remember right, that was the same year I saw a car floating down the street.
Typhoon Sepat has caused a lot of trouble for the Philippines... I hope Taiwan fares better.
