I was updating my BlackBerry apps and noticed that Google Sync for BlackBerry now includes Google Contact synchronization. You can upgrade from Google Mobile Apps on your BlackBerry (select the "More" option, highlight the Sync icon, and choose upgrade), or you can visit m.google.com/sync from your phone and install or upgrade.
I am using a BlackBerry Curve 8320 and OS 4.5. Google Sync does two-way contact and calendar sync and it is working for me. I am very happy to finally have contact synchronization.
I had just signed up for Soocial, but their BlackBerry sync is still missing.
This move from Google is welcome; I was beginning to think they only love the iPhone and forgot us BlackBerry users. :-D
Hi. I had found this post of yours right after you posted it. I had searched to see if anyone knew when Soocial is planning to release their BlackBerry component. Instead, of course, I learned this update about Google Sync from you. Thank you very much!ReplyDelete
But I wanted to let you know about the problems many people are having with syncing contacts, according to this Google support forum:
So, in case you haven't tried it yet, you may want to wait until they work out the bugs (or first back up both the Blackberry and Gmail contacts). I'm going to hold off until Google upgrades the app to fix these problems or until Soocial releases an app that works, but I'll still back up everything before trying it.
I have had two problems; 1) some of my contacts were duplicated onto my BlackBerry and 2) two of my contacts were on both BB and Google and deleting the duplicate caused me to lose some information from the contact I kept.ReplyDelete
I ended up exporting all my Google contacts to CSV, removed duplicates, deleted contacts from both BB and Google, then uploaded my CSV file and synced. I haven't had problems since.
